Portland Brides: Your Ultimate Bridal Boudoir Prep Guide

Portland Brides: Your Ultimate Bridal Boudoir Prep Guide

(From a Clean, Modern Film Boudoir Photographer)

Whether you’re weeks away from your wedding or deep in the planning process, many Portland, Oregon brides are embracing a new wedding tradition: a bridal boudoir session.

As a film boudoir photographer based in Portland, I work with brides who want to feel beautiful, empowered, and deeply seen—without the filters, over-editing, or cliché poses.

This prep guide will walk you through everything you need to know before your session so you feel confident, comfortable, and completely ready.

Let’s get you prepared for an experience that’s equal parts editorial and emotional.

Why Portland Brides Are Booking Bridal Boudoir

Before we dive into logistics, here’s why more and more brides in Portland are choosing to book a boudoir session before the big day:

  • A deeply personal gift for your partner

  • A moment of pause and reflection before your wedding

  • A way to reclaim confidence in a modern, minimalist, body-neutral space

  • Artistic, timeless imagery captured on film photography

What Makes Film Boudoir Different?

I shoot on 35mm and medium format film because it brings softness, texture, and authenticity that digital can't replicate.

Why film?

  • Natural, flattering skin tones

  • Fewer but more intentional frames

  • A nostalgic, editorial vibe

  • It slows down the process—so you can actually feel it

Brides love that it feels like art, not just photos.

What to Do Before Your Session

1. Plan Your Wardrobe

Less is more. I recommend 2–3 outfit options:

  • Clean lingerie (black, white, or neutrals photograph best)

  • A classic button-down or silk robe

  • A special item: your partner’s shirt, veil, or wedding shoes

  • Don’t forget your body—bare skin with soft sheets or cozy textures is timeless

  • Heals are always a fun touch

Pro tip: Portland boutiques like Oh Baby Lingerie carry great minimalist pieces.

3. Prep Your Body Gently

  • Stay hydrated the day before

  • Moisturize your skin

  • Avoid anything that might leave marks (socks, tight underwear, bra’s) you will need to arrive in loose fitting clothes

  • Waxing ? Do it 2–3 days in advance

  • Spray tan? I can only do so much about a yellow or orange tan so make sure to do a tanning trial way before your session so when/if you tan for your session you know how it will turn out.

This is not about perfection. It’s about feeling your best and showing up as you are.

4. Consider Hair + Makeup

I recommend working with one of my trusted local artists who align with the clean, modern aesthetic I shoot.

Think:

  • Dewy skin

  • Soft, brushed brows

  • Natural lips and maybe on red lip

  • Light curls

If you don’t wear makeup often, that’s OK too. The most important thing is that you feel like yourself. Though I will say that a some makeup for a shoot does add a polished feeling.

What to Expect the Day Of

  • Sessions typically last 60 minutes

  • I’ll guide you through natural, movement-based posing—no need to practice

  • You’ll receive gentle direction, calming energy, and affirmations throughout

  • I shoot slowly and intentionally to ensure each frame tells your story

This is not just about being sexy for the camera.
It’s about being seen as you are, through the softness of film.

After the Session: What You’ll Receive

  • A curated gallery of fine art film scans

  • Optional heirloom album design

  • Add-ons like framed prints, wedding-day delivery packaging, or hand-written note inclusion

Delivery time is typically 2–3 weeks depending on lab processing and album design.
